Will the snow ever end… that is the question Northerners want to know. The regions fourth major winter storm, being called a “snow hurricane” has blasted New England for the last three weeks, 16″ just last night nearly covered everything in snow and with temperatures plummeting, New England is like an ice box. Yet another winter whiteout officially made this the third snowiest winter on record with 97.5 inches so far. Meanwhile, East Port Maine has been hammered with 101 inches since January 24th.
We at Pack ‘N Piddle know how difficult it can be to take small pets outdoors in these frigid conditions. Many small dogs don’t like the feel of wet grass on the pads of their paws, let alone cold and crunchy snow! Like people, pets are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia. Some dogs such as Huskies or Bernese Mountain Dogs who have thicker coats are better suited for the cold, whereas smaller dogs cannot withstand the cold for as long or as well. There are also hidden dangers in the salt used to melt the winter ice on roads and sidewalks. Salt can get in their paws and burn, and if it gets into the fur and they lick it, it’s even worse. A tiny amount of ingested salt can irritate a dog’s mouth or stomach, while a larger amount can cause serious illness.
Many of our Northern customers tell us how their dog hates the snow and shake and shiver long after brought back indoors. If this is your dog, consider a Pack ‘N Piddle when going out isn’t working for you or your pet. The Pack ‘N Piddle will not only protect your pet, but you too! With these frigid temperatures frost bite can set in in less than 30 minutes.
Your pet is our priority! Get your Pack ‘N Piddle today!
